This is so true and so painful. I had to literally pay off my mother to behave at my wedding. She burst out in tears when I told her that I was going to Italy for my honeymoon, not out of happiness for her daughter, but out of self pity and resentment. It took me years after her death to really understand that the person that was to supposed to be my biggest supporter, was more than willing to sabotage me to get what she thought she was entitled to.
